Iraq war czar: Consider a draft

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Frequent tours for U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan have stressed the all-volunteer force and made it worth considering a return to a military draft, President Bush's new war adviser said Friday.

"I think it makes sense to certainly consider it," Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute said in an interview with National Public Radio's "All Things Considered."http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/08/10/war.adviser.draft.ap/index.html?section=cnn_latest

Bush starts rattling sabre at Al Maliki for not being a compliant enough US puppet:
Listen up, Bush tells Maliki: Iran is a danger to the Middle East

IN A warning to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, President George Bush said Iran was a danger to the Middle East, and that if Mr Maliki did not share that view, Mr Bush would have a "heart to heart" talk with him.http://www.smh.com.au/news/world/listen-up-bush-tells-maliki-iran-is-a-danger-to-the-middle-east/2007/08/10/1186530618698.html

All these lies about democracy in Iraq are just that, LIES.

I guess a draft for an American empire wouldn't bother me so much if the empire actually benefited the Actual US & American citizens,
but it doesn't,

it benefits Ex-patriot multinational corporations & hyperrich criminals.

American citizens are going to be forced to die for the profit margins of Bechtel, Halliburton, Blackwater & Big Oil companies among others.

Blood Money.

It's time for Americans to reap the consequences of electing big government politcians who are in bed with special interest and big business. I hope this is true so it will serve as a wake up call to finally get rid of the Reps/Dems for less corrupt politcians.

If we had a citizen army, maintained by a draft, instead of a professional army maintained as a career option, we never would have allowed ourselves to be tricked into this disaster of a war in the first place.

Bring on the draft, the more unfair the better. It would be like shooting up the dead corpse of the GOP, just to be sure.

you make good points about bringing back a draft.

Americans seem dangerously close to living in a fantasy land full of free lunches.

The question if we did have a draft is how much harder the corporate media propaganda machine would have to spin the facts into their fabrication to pull the wool over the American public's eyes/minds.

Maybe the post-WWII middle class prosperity boom was unsustainable,
but i still think the American government should be doing 20 times better protecting its citizens rather than pandering to ex-patriot corrupt corporations.

In general people have to release their impossible dreams in order that we/they may sort through various possible dreams to pursue in light of their expected costs.

Americans have chosen to let big government, giant corporations, and corrupt politcians run their life. They do not seek to be free. A draft will force them to make a decision... freedom or big government.

American citizens are already dying in Iraq-both soldiers, and American civilian employees over there. The only thing a draft is going to do is allocate as many American body counts that Bush, Cheney, Rice, and all the other lying hegemones need to fulfill their own greedy self serving interests in the Middle East-such as fattening their already bulging wallets. They all might be criminals, but I don't see any of the political pussys at the top with them trying to stop them-especially the sorry ass United Nations.:o
