View Full Version : Old fashioned conservatives are spinning in their graves!
The republicans and democrats together just gave the federal government the power to spy on americans without functional oversight.
How fondly I remember the old school conservatives, who wanted to reduce the size and intrusiveness of the feds.
Today's neocons are foolish enough to believe _they_ will never have their phones tapped, their bedrooms videoed, their habits entered into a giant federal database. They think the feds will only spy on muslims, the dark skinned, and the democrats.
Will they be so happy when the dems are in control, using the new FISA rules to spy on republicans and christians?

In 2000, southern republicans abandoned their roots to support Dubya and they still don't know it. They're going to mindlessly do it again by voting for either Giuliani or Thompson. Even today few have bothered to read the blue print for the administration which is anything but conservative politics.
Even worse, many believe that someone running for President can actually believe in the teachings of Jesus or that someone that wants a job that will keep them away from their families 10 months out of the year actually has family values.
I have a great deal of respect for the republican voters that educate themselves about their candidates but unfortunately they're aren't many. Most are just sheep that refuse to take a few minutes and read when they can just rub one off to Anne Coulter and Bill O.

Old fashioned conservative, distasteful health food has been abandoned for NeoCotton Candy instead.
Making this one sick nation.

As both parties move toward statism our freedoms will continue to pay the price.

I was wonderin' how many posts before a non-partisan set 'em straight.

A lot of people here claim to hate both parties or be nonpartisan, but when it comes down to it they will vote for what they consider of the lesser of two evils and play the politics for that side.

one may have little choice but to vote for the lesser of two evils,
but one should express that there are far better directions & actions so people will lodge that in their minds & begin to ask about them, until some candidate with those kind of views steps up & gives them a genuine fresh, visionary alternative.

I don't vote for which ever candidate disgusts me less. It accomplishes nothing.

I can't speak for your bogeyman "The Neocons", but if it was up to me the Fed would be trimmed down to the military, various security agencies, some standards setting agencies, courts and not much else. In times of war, drastic measures are sometimes needed and this doesn't even approach drastic.

Most people support ignoring the constitution as long as it fits their agenda.

and that is the reason the constitution must be adhered to kres24GT, to keep government from being excessively tainted by short term agendas.
For a rudder to have any useful effect it must be fairly rigid & unbending,
For a ship of state to float it must maintain structural/ethical integrity.

It's too late now. The constitution has been liberally interpreted for too long. What if we were to enforce the 10th amendment all of the sudden. That would be an instant end to about 50% of the federal government, if not more. The only way to do it logically is to slowly wean ourselves off our huge bureaucratic power hungry federal government.
That the power form the government and put the responsibility on the people.
Americans won't go for it though. They will always trade freedom for comfort.

that's why you can't give them the option of trading freedom for comfort.
You don't inject sensation numbing deficit spending to put off the pain of a counterproductive, unnecessary war.
you allow sunshine to heal the rot of corruption & distortion.
You make it easy for people to see the ugly underbelly of the US government.
you pull no punches, you accept no excuses.

Again too late. Welfare, social security, oppressive business regulation, smoking bans, war on drugs, wire taps, illegal searches, etc.
A huge majority of Americans have decided the comfort these programs, despite being unconstitutional, warrants their existence.
Let's get government out of our business and return to a constitutional system of government with very limited federal government. I am all for it if you are. This is why I don't vote for Dems and Reps, they see the Constitution as historical artifact, not the law.

Most people support ignoring the constitution as long as it fits their agenda. Perhaps you could explain how the Constitution has been compromised for law-abiding citizens.
