How many days before the blame game on the bridge in Minneapolis starts? Should someone be held accountable? Of course, will it stop there? No. I am sure there will be some blame amongst the political parties as well. And as with all things I am sure some of our Bush fans will fins away to blame him.

What it comes down to though is that fixing roads and infrastructure doesn't buy votes. It's taken for granted and expected by the voters. Our current system is set up so that the politcians that will use the most tax dollars to support your ideal is why you will vote for. And fixing roads and the like just doesn't cut it. They use our tax dollars to fund welfare programs, fight stupid wars, and build sports stadiums. Why? Because these things will buy votes.

Fixing a bridge won't. Why use money to fix the bridge when you can use it to stay in power?

With 160,000 bridges (around 27% of US bridges) in worse or the same shape as this bridge was (has failed in its inspections in both 2005 and 2006) its a wonder that none have fallen prior to this - the stresses on those spans is way more than ever planned for 30 years ago

I blame it on the liberals.

Somewhere some liberal was having buttsecks, and God got so pissed off he blasted a bridge...

I blame it on our joke of a political system.

But that would be rational, and where's the fun in that?

Besides, americans love wars, and we can't afford both wars _and_ infrastructure.

Given the choice between guns and butter, americans, well, they're mildly fond of the butter of infrastructure, but they freekin love the guns of non-defensive warfare.

Especially juicy fun wars like the war on drugs, the war on science, the war on sex, and other happy-face government wars.

Congress recently passed that largest highway spending bill in history. It also had more ear marks on it then any bill in history. MN got more then their share.

Why are Americans allowing our country to fall apart this way?
