Soooo very nice, Cos....every once in awhile, someone enters your life, may or may not say or do what we'd like them to.....but nevertheless, is still thoughtful and kind, and therefore, no forgiveness is needed.....

How about a cool, dispassionate recognition of what has transpired in the past?

Those who have committed transgressions are treated with deserved caution,
without over amplifying their negative acts.

Forgiveness is too gushily emotional.

It doesn't keep accurate accountability intact.

If you don't want the deed to be counted, don't commit it.

If you don't want the repeat of the deed to be counted, again, don't do it again.

Think of the Universe as a giant, incomprehensible accountant.
Only a fool would ignore it recklessly.
Otherwise you are condemning us to a prolonged suicide of species.

Although admittedly our reaction of outrage is often overblown.

Of course when the other, traitorous side is generating its own undeserved outrage & vitriol our patriotic selves have no choice but to return it in kind with interest due.

Reckless unaccountability is to be discouraged both in ourselves & in others for both ourselves & for others.

Forgiving is just intelligent. Who is harmed by carrying the load that every grudge represents?

Forgetting is to deny what your own eyes has told. That to me is unintelligent. If, over time, you see that what you once saw is no longer true, you honor that.

Fine balance between resentment and forgiveness.

Personally, I live my life in a way to 'forgive' most things.

I just try to find the difference between forgiving, and being taken advantage of.

Forgiving is simple....once I've exacted my revenge.

Then, we can start with a clean slate.

It isn't 'forgive' as much as try to comprehend,
because if you comprehend your command of understanding is increased.

And if you understand where someone is coming from you know better how to respond.

If someone simply had an out of control moment that they themselves acknowledge & say they will try to avoid in the future you may choose to cut them some slack, BUT
don't forget some will say patronizing things while they intend deceit,
others will mean what they say in that instant, but repeatedly do the same transgressions over & over without correcting it.

Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice or a thousand times, & shame on me.

that 'shame on me' is you being accountable to you.
In the fluid universe of time, space & chaotic events, in all likelihood that is the only accounting you will get.
If you look at you & find you &/or your circumstances wanting, then barring impossible improbabilities, you & only you can & are motivated to fix it.

If you are self reliant, you won't have to forgive.
You can be cool, clinically honest.
& worthwhile people will regarded duely,
& unaccountable dangers will be treated in correct accordance.

You can't make up for someone else's failings.
The only failings you can make up for are your own.
Only they can make up for their failings such as they see them.

The proof is in the pudding, & words are virtually worthless.

Deeds, not words, speak volumes.

Don't 'say' you are sorry, behave in a manner such that you believe it. & in your believing i will find my believing.

Is this really such an exceptional basis of operation? Duh.

Mr, gone
10-12-2009, 07:31 PM
Human emotions make this 'clinical' approach for most people all but impossible. As the the truth gets gagged and bound in a back room, perception becomes the mind's reality.:disbelief:

Grudges are not good.

Exact revenge. You'll feel better, and you will be performing a service. Best to plan your actions for a long time.

Be advised, though. You must be prepared to accept the consequences.

I believe it was Confucius that advised to dig two graves, when plotting revenge.

You threaten them with revenge.
If they clean up their acts you don't do it.
But you don't forget their squirming, compulsive brains aren't thrashing & spasing away.
If they don't clean up their acts, you eliminate them for the benefit of the community.

In an ideal world we are all self-monitoring, but that really isn't how things work in a lot of cases, so we have to do some people's monitoring for them.

You get to live with the grudge.
You get to all that hate and anger stored up, and waste your time plotting revenge.

One has to ask themselves " what am I trying to accomplish?"
If you extract revenge - will it change your current situation?
Or will it simply make you feel you have righted a wrong?

At what expense to your psyche?

Almost always karma will take care of things, those who live an evil life, will have to trade in evilness, and have that as part of their outlook.

I'm not saying roll over and play dead - but the way I look at it is
" what's in it for me?"

Will it change anyhting in MY life for the better to go after someone who wronged me?
Or will I simply expend energy, and experience stress and trauma, in an attempt to extract revenge?

Honestly what you calculate is what is more expedient?

Eliminating an endangerment & living with the costs & risks of that,

or trying to co-exist with something that has already demonstrated proof of betrayal?

You may put up with a certain amount of aggravation, but at some point it is termination city, lol. 'KABOOM!'

Yes...you calculate the cost, and make your decision about how/whether to retaliate.

Sometimes, it's worth the price. Sometimes, it doesn't cost a thing.

Some idiot pulls out in front of you, causing you to pull some manuevers that would make the NASCAR rednecks proud.

Now, you can calmly accept that there are a shitload of morons on the road, or you can illustrate to the idiot that he's an accident waiting to happen.

For me, it may take several miles on the same road, but I will find a way to cut the idiot off, so that he may enjoy the same "oh shit!!!" moment that he bestowed upon me. Sometimes you just have to teach people that there are consequences for their mindless actions.

This must be a guy thing, assuming the position of "teaching a lesson" to thoughtless drivers. One of these days you're going to find out that the idiot you're schooling doesn't have the quick reflexes that you do. Will it still be worth it then?

First...I live in an aea that gets bombarded with a certain braindead ethnicity every summer. These idiots really must believe that they have God on their side. They don't belong on the roads.

I drive a 3/4 ton pickup, when I'm not in my Veemer....that's a poor man's Beemer.

My truck tires are level with the ears of these morons, yet they still cut me off.

I don't run them off the road...not by a longshot. I just wait for my opportunity, and pull in front of them, when there's a 4 lane road. I leave a foot or two between our bumpers, so they just have to hit the brakes.

The problem is that I get cut off several times, every day in the summer. Sooner or later, I just get tired of it. It's actually a big thing in my area...there are articles in the papers every spring, reminding us that the idiots are returning.

Although...I did almost run a guy off the highway once, when he pissed me off. Again..a moron in a little car, messing with a pickup truck. He was being an ass, and he needed to learn about highway etiquette. He didn't wreck, he just had to do some really fancy driving. His wife ended up using a cellphone to call the cops, while they followed me off the highway. I knew what they were doing, so I took them for a scenic little trip through the locality.

Eventually, I ended up in Home Depot, where the guy confronted me. I took advantage of my right to be stupid....I claimed I didn't know what he was talking about, and I apologized if I did what he said I did.

He didn't know what to say...they had to call the cops, and tell them "nevermind".
I know...it's a character flaw. I work with the hand I was dealt.

Trust me...that isn't the worst of my revenge stories. I really can't discuss many of the others in public.

Suffice to say, I don't believe in an eye for an eye....more like, your arm, for my finger. I have exacted revenge on more than one occassion, and found that I paid for it in some way shape or form, in the near future.

I don't go for the biggies anymore. I'm mellowing:lmao2:

I figure if it is some random idiot, either some angered person or just plain stupid decisions will take care of them eventually, but that's not to say that another won't rise to take their place.
It is like fighting with raindrops. It makes very little sense.

The real question is when you talk about people you deal with on a regular basis. That is where the calculations & considerations come into play.
The honest direct approach seems like the best, most neutral starting point.
Honest acknowledgment where they may not be aware of what they are doing & how it is affecting you.
If they go out of their way to be an asshole at that point, the gloves are off & there is no bottom line with them.
Visions of shoving pureeing their head down a micro-blackhole into infinite spagettification seems in order. <Wicked, dark laughter, Ha, ha, ha!>

You fellas and your testosterone...mellowing comes with age as the hormone declines. Soon, you'll be babysitting with the grandkids while wife goes out to do "stuff."
why does one think they must be judge and jury?

You get cut off in traffic - who hasn't?

someone has to "break the chain", i do.

I figure the guy is a moron or a bad driver, why do I need to "show him'?

Am I the Drivers Ed teacher?

If i tried to exact revenge for every wrong commited on me, that's all my life would be about.

MoveOn. Make the best day for yourself - no need to exact revenge, it's lowering yourself to the standards you decry.

you get all that negative energy bottled up inside you, then you have to go find a way to displace it?

How abut removing yourself from the situation.
Unless you prefer to go around with clenched teeth and fists.

Cosmic, all it does is place undue stess on those arteries and vessles. When one reaches the half-century mark, it's time to go easy on the stress. Let it go. Life IS too short!

I would hope a half a century also imparts a bit of wisdom, that life is not a
neat and tidy tit for tat.

I worry about Big Stuff.

My job - got promoted

My health - getting back into really good shape, even trying a little tai chi
with a neighbor who is a retired martial arts master.
quit the cigarettes except 2 a day, never more.

My family - taking care of mom.

My cat - doing what I can to advance him to a higher plane of re-incarnation
( he's well trained, and really communicative, as well as the alpha male on the block )

& again congrats my friend........Hi friend.
Yes even 2 cigs a day leaves my lungs hot, and a nasty throat - but no coughing, or other gross side effects.

Gotta quit though. 2 cigs and a packed glass bowl a day is a LOT of carbon monoxide, and cancerous radicals.

Ive been exercising it out. Swimming, weights and self muscle isolation exercises, the whole PT thing.

It's gotten so I crave exercise more than i do any drug or food.
I was tired of Running on Empty, Running Full into the sun now.

I am not surprised. Years ago I read something about how when we are positive and optimistic, looking for the good as much as possible, we attract positivity and goodness toward ourselves. The opposite is true for negativity. Whatever we embody, we attract. I believe it had something to do with the positive/negative energy in the universe...

LOL........... Well the best of luck in quitting.... 2 cigs... You are almost there............

Changing life style & habits certainly helps but the key is really the desire to be done w/ the addiction......

I think you have a pretty strong will & will be able to master it when you are ready...

I have known many ppl that could walk away from heroin & meth but could not give up cigs............ It is really very, very addicting............

That is why I think the gum helps.........

It did me. Back in the day when I was quitting I had issues like everyone & I was out partying all the time. Drinking & smoking was like peanut butter & jelly- can't have one w/out the other..........

You don't drink so you don't have to deal w/ that but the gum will get you over that obsession of just thinking about it......

Chew it a min or so & just hold it in your lip or under your tongue for five mins & you will have forgotten all about it........

What you say is true. Once I exact my revenge, the balance is restored in the universe.

We can then proceed with the positive energy. Definitely not good to bottle up all that frustration.

I guess my biggest problem is that our area gets invaded by outsiders. They are a burden....physically, mentally, and economically. There is no "up" side for us, as you might find in other vacation areas.

When you add the horrid driving....which drives our insurance rates through the roof....it gets to be a bit much.

I don't think they do it on purpose...they're just that stupid. Once you show them how it feels to be the victim of stupid driving, perhaps they will become enlightened?

Perhaps not, but balance is a biggie in my life.

I don't know what your area is like, other than the pics you've posted over the years, so it seems you have mts., woods and a lake. When tourists vacation or people spend the summer, there ought to be some economic benefit to the area...e.g. food and fuel purchases as well as the tax revenue generated by those purchases. ???

Living in the SF bay area, we had our share of bad drivers as well, only they were crazy scarey to boot. I once worked with a young woman who literally got off the airplane at SFO from Hong Kong, took a cab to a car lot, bought a new car and took to the freeways. Her driving experience consisted of driving lessons back home of a rather short duration. :disbelief: Isolated incident, you think? No. Commonplace.

Our population triples in the summer. The small benefit that may be realized through sales tax revenue, is trivial compared to the economic hit we take because they (falsely) claim religious exemptions on their properties up here.

Most tourist areas deal with the hassles that come with the visitors, because they profit from the thriving business.

Not so, up here.

What's the religion getting the exemptions?

Ultra orthodox judaism.

They have large vacation colonies, that they claim are either schools, or have a synagogue on the premises.

They probably do have synagogues on premises, and schools. I'm sure the government has inspected the properties; it's doubtful they would just take their word for it and issue an exemption.

Besides the driving and your thinking they are "stupid", what else do you resent about them?

I don't know if resent is the correct word.

They are ignorant to the ways of the outside world. They, like Quakers/Penn. Dutch, etc. live in an insular society. If they choose to walk amongst us, they should learn how to act...or in this case...drive.

We, as a nation could take a lesson from them....they vote as a block, and they deliver thousands of votes to the politicians that will give them what they want.
The last thing Clinton did before leaving the White House, was to pardon a couple of jailed rabbis. They mishandled millions of dollars of govt. handouts, that were meant to be used for a school.

As a result, Hillary was delivered the block vote, and it helped her win her first Senate bid.

If they wanted a tax exemption on the synagogue, so be it...but not on acres, and acres of vacation land.

It isn't any different than the Catholic Church, and their vast empire of tax exempt property. I don't think any religious org. should take property tax exemptions.

Just for shits and giggles, google Kiryas Joel. You can read about the burden on "the outside world", from this group.

I don't hate anyone. I hate what my region becomes every summer, with no sort of return for our suffering.

What IS with the vast holding these religious groups get?
I'm including the Catholic Church.

I can see the building itself, and a parcel of land for activities - but vast holdings, all tax free?
What a racket, selling " tickets to God" tax free.

And all the idiots who support them. I can see why you would be pissed, are they NY drivers? or out of state?

you should hear about the things ultra-orthodox jews do to other israelis.

Women who wear normal women's wear are subjected to having paint thrown on them etc.
They try to intimidate clothiers.

They attacked a journalist, beating & spitting on her when she reported their protest for a parking garage that was open on Saturday, because she used a tape recorder, which is apostate?

They are like crazy people. And they hold sway in a worsening Israeli public opinions.

They are a reckless endangerment to decent people everywhere.
