My top US + UK films – top 250 + 150 honorable mentioned list, top 100 funniest comedies (50 honorable mentions), top 10 lists (1980-2008), top 25 by decade and my must see list. All American/British films. FILMS LIKE THE THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY, 8 1/2, THE SEVENTH SIGN, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, ETC. (Fellini, Renoir, Kurosawa, Eisenstein, Buñuel, etc. films)
are for the most part excluded.

I cheated sometimes by combining trilogies & original/sequels/remakes etc. for one position. Each list, besides the yearly top 10 lists, are films that were produced out of The U.S. or Great Britain. Not too much has changed, basically I kept about 80% of my original top 250 and added a list of 150 honorable mentioned films, and a lot of films in my top 100 remained but the positions changed for the most part.

A+ = Legendary film. Approx 20 films.
A = Excellent film. Approx 100 films.
A- = Great film. Approx 150 films.
B+ = Very good film. Approx 200+ films.

I'm not that into movies, but I like goofy shit.

Kung Pow is a fantastic movie, pure brilliance. Monty Python's Holy Grail - marvelous.

I did see LOTR in your A+ list. I never go to the movie theater, but I did when each of these movies came out. I'm a Tolkien buff, have been for a long time so as you can expect, I was geekily annoyed by them. Great movies if you haven't read the book but there was WAY too much carved out regardless of what - 10 hours of movie time. Too much missing from the story and more added to it that is inaccurate.

My fav comedy (& perhaps movie) is blazing saddles......... I like that Kung Pow as well having watched countless karate fliX hour after hour back in the mid 80's........... There is a sequel coming out pretty soon I hear..
Made this list about over a year ago on other message boards. Going to update again probably sometime next year. (2008 films not included, only top 10 list) I'll also eventually post my worst 100 movies thread perhaps later on.

A = Excellent film. Approx 100 films.
A- = Great film. Approx 150 films.
B+ = Very good film. Approx 200+ films.
B = Good film. Approx 200 films.
B- = Average/Above average. Approx 50+ films.

Wow..............

Very, very impressive....

I have seen several of those fliX & would agree w/ many of those choices.... Just trying to compare-weigh them all is monumental...

Over the next couple days I am going to have to go over that list a few times to digest & begin to squeeze that into this small mind...

It is a very, very extensive list.....

Out of all the hundreds you agree w/ why point out just a few like that...???

The man is obviously a master here......... I am sure I or even he could go back over a list that big & say this or that....

ShhhHHiissshhh give the brotha' a break....

Why not say where you would think that/those should be/could be on the list...

To say I am impressed by that list is a serious understatement....

Typo'd that one, its #29 overall on my top 250 so... #7 for funniest comedies (sounds good) tied with The Graduate. Added Meaning of Life to must see list, but further down not too eager to see.

Get into the classics. You are doing yourself a great disservice by missing out on them.

Its a clear standard I've set for myself. Many foreign films are a different breed of cinema. I haven't seen enough of them to compare along side the US/UK speaking greats. So I guess you could say I have too much respect for foreign greats to just arbitrarily throw them into the mix. If anything I would make a foreign film greats list. I really enjoyed the spag westerns but I've only seen Good, Bad and Ugly fairly recently. Haven't seen Fistful or a Few Dollars More or Once Upon Mexico... longer than I can remember. I have a few that are among my favorites (such as Fellini's 8 1/2, which would probably be #3 on my top 250) so I really had to bite my tongue on exclude some.

As for others I avoided these foreign classics because I've seen so many I gotta have something to look forward to. :)

Just a tip, on your browser you can click edit and scroll down to find. Or hit CTRL + F and a little taskbar should appear at the bottom. Type in any film and it should highlight it on my list.

On my top 250 Fargo was 35th and Snatch made my honorable mention.

Red Dawn is more of a guilty pleasure but it freaked me out when I was younger. I'd give it a B-. Jerimiah Johnson could be good, I could mark that down as films to see as well.

Either or.

Life of Brian is pretty good, a little slow at times. If your tolerance for religious satire is high, you'll probably enjoy it. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life is my cellphone ringtone, btw.

Do a double header - watch them both, just make Meaning of Life the second film, it's better.

I'd give the 5th Element a B. Obviously plenty of eye popping visual candies in there too much influence from Blade Runner and Star Wars so originality points get taken off. Also the comedy in the film seemed waaaay too forced. It was good.

La Femme Nakita's remake was sort of a standard action flick with a few entertaining scenes. I'd give that a B- but Luc Besson's universally hailed action film The Professional I would probably only give a B to. Gary Oldman in probably the most overacted performance in film history. "EVERYONE!!!!!!" lol I would say that probably action films are probably my least favorite genre.

I've heard of this, its very difficult to make a good black comedy. Seems like it would be a decent cult comedy film but seems a little too sloppy and campy. If you like those types of films then John Waters would probably be up your ally.

Hairspray (the original with Divine) was awesome, Cry-Baby was weird, as was Cecil B. Demented; and Pecker was hilarious. He's a genius.

Blood Work (2002) B-
Mystic River (2003) A-
Million Dollar Baby (2004) A-
Flags of Our Fathers (2006) B
Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) A-

My favorite foreign film of all time, 8 1/2. Absolute masterpiece. btw watching youtube clips does film little justice on the small screen. I would say this is my #1 recommendation to you if you haven't seen it.

Here's a great scene!

and you can go on to each part after that. No sync sound the entire film. All the audio was added in post production.

Fellini's other film La Dolce Vita is another one you would enjoy. Here's a clip.

Its even better when you can relate it in the context of the rest of the film. (note: This is actually one of the few shots where the camera moves in a leftward direction.) I'm doing it an injustice by the small size of the screen. Just get a small taste.

My suggestion start watching it early on a Sunday afternoon. Four hour legendary epic!!!

This excellent scene from Natual Born Killers has stuck in my mind over these past 15 years! Rodney Dangerfield's irreverent/eccentric humor somehow works brilliantly, in this warped and twisted family scene.

Technically speaking Slumdog is a British film.

What did you think of the new Star Trek movie out this summer? I'd give it a solid B because the entire franchise was basically dead in the water before this. There were bad scenes and poor dialogue exchanges but it knews what it was and didn't make any excuses or apologies. Awesome sound design and special effects sort of "Michael Bay"-ed up but the time travel/alternate realities completely justifies the new and "steroid-like" universe of Star Trek. I'd rank it along with a guilty summer pleasures like Transformers. I ask because I think it actually appeals more to non-Trekkies than Trekkies (or even just regular Star Trek fans).

Very very few tv show I enjoy (don't get me started I hate television shows and should be separated as much as possible as a medium from film as much as possible). I'd say The Sopranos is probably my favorite show of all time.

A- films are 'awesome' films. B+ films are just a step below that. Comparisons to Shawshank are inevitable. As good a film this was it only underlines how great a film Shawshank was. It was very slow moving and didn't need so many superfluous scenes. I am under the school of thought that a great film can never be too long and a bad movie can never be too short. This is a very good film that runs on way too long. But I don't like to concentrate on the negatives, especially when it comes to B+ films. It is a very touching film.

I enjoyed the TV show immensely when I was 3 TV station kid...I was quite the SciFi fan though not really a treki.

There's very little on TV I enjoy any more...House, Breaking Bad and Sons Of Anarchy are about all I watch other than news.

I click alot and have an idea of the quality of what is on TV these days and I'm not impressed.

The old Star Trek episodes are only watchable if you're drunk.

The next generation ones are almost unwatchable except for a couple of episodes, like the Borg one. Aside from just a few, it's a fucking soap opera.

Anything after that is just crap - including the movies.

I haven't had the slightest bit interest in Star Trek for almost a decade.

The 2009 installment was highly entertaining, not much of a brain but spectacular sci-fi action/adventure. Each character gets the proper amount of screen time. Loved the time travel aspect of it. Too many flaws to be considered a great film but good.

When I was younger I liked Star Trek but slowly lost interest. IMO, Part 2 KHAN!!! is still the best.

HHhmmmm.......... I would agree... I liked it but waned... After the Khan I never watched as much as a trailer intentionally...

All of the ones later seemed marking concepts like Marloboro 27, 72's & smooth........ Same shit different label....... Yawn...

??? Taras Bulba ???? I always like Yul Brynner in most of his movies & he was awesome in this one.......... To bad tony curtis was in it (one thing I didn't care for in it)... IMO he looked totally lame ........... (http://www.dcjunkies.com/showthread.php?t=10986&page=3)

Regardless of what you say about Star Trek, it has enough cultural and genre impact can not to be totally ignored. The franchise heavily obits around a concentrated fan base though and it pails in comparison to the SW franchise. I can understand the lack of interest.

1.Lawrence of Arabia (1962) – A cinematic treasure. Agree

2.Citizen Kane (1941) - Ideas and groundbreaking achievements were so revolutionary that much of its majesty wasn't fully realized for over a generation. Absolutely insane genius, may seem dated, but its really not.Agree

3.Graduate, The (1967) – The film that made me to seriously decide to study film. Great soundtrack and revolutionary directing. Can't go along with this one. Soundtrack isterrific. And some of the iconic shots - the leg/thigh shot; underwater shot; final shot on bus; dustin pounding on the glass wall; etc. are forever going to be remembered - as are some of the lines 'are you trying to seduce me Mrs. Robinson?;' 'Plastics!', 'Are you here for an affair, sir?.' are classics. But, IMO, the screenplay just doesn't hold together. It's dated - and, frankly, what was clever and modern when it was new is now just boring.

4.Godfather, The (Part 1+2)(1972/1974) – Profound American saga. The lines of dialogue have been forever embedded into the American culture and film discourse. Agree

5.Star Wars – A New Hope (1977) – Probably the most exciting film ever made. Ground shattering special effects. Shook the foundation of the sci-fi genre with a 9.0 on the Richter scale. I suppose many would agree with you. And everything you wrote is true. I just wasn't thrilled with it. Though, admittedly, I have only started accepting Sci-Fi as a legitimate genre in the past ten years LOL

6.Sunset Blvd. (1950) – Easily the greatest Hollywood film about Hollywood ever made. Agree

7.Wizard of Oz (1939) – As a musical or fantasy, it can’t get much better than this. Agree - I even wear a Wizard of Oz watch LOL

8.Bridge on the River Kwai, The (1957) – IMO, best ending ever. David Lean is an amazing director. Agree

9.Casablanca (1942) – Like a fine bottle of perfectly aged wine, its complexities are seemingly endless This one holds a strange place for me. I'm not sure it's one of the ten best movies - but it is certainly in my top ten favorite movies.

10.Lord of the Rings, The (2001-2003) – Best trilogy ever, IMO. True imagining of the book. Totally disagree. Fell asleep in all three of them. Beyond the special effects and art direction, they were big disappointments for me. But I realize I'm in the minority here. Just not my cup of tea AT ALL

11.E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) - I’ll admit it, this is the only film that made me cry. My favorite Spielberg movie. Agree

12.Psycho (1960) – The greatest twist of all time. What no other director would dare to put on screen, Hitchcock does with surprising bluntness. Agree - I also think "Vertigo" deserves a place of honor.

13.Shawshank Redemption (1994) – Script was pure poetry. Tugs at your emotions with a surprising twist. Agree

14.Gone With the Wind (1939) - This is the epitome of the Hollywood epic. The most memorable female lead ever. Agree

15.Singin' in the Rain (1952) – Hollywood musical that deserves its due credit. Most famous dance sequence ever. Agree.

16.Annie Hall (1977) – My favorite comedy of all time. Intelligent and hilariously quirky script. Agree

17.Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) – Probably was my favorite movie as a kid.Very enjoyable movie - but not anywhere near the top list in my book.

18.It's a Wonderful Life (1946) – A holiday season tradition. A provocative poignant theme. Another disagreement. I think it's obvious, predictable, and manipulative. I don't begrudge 20 million Americans their favorite Christmas movie, but I find it a real snore fest.

19.Pulp Fiction (1994) – Absolutely insane situations, witty dialogue and the gimp. Defined the 90s film at the peak of the indie movement. Agree

20.Raging Bull (1980) – Fascinating sports/bio pic that’s a great study for aesthetic violence. One of the greatest and devoted performances of all time.Agree

21.High Noon (1952) – Real time film that builds up tension like no other film. My favorite western. Agree

22.Goodfellas (1990) – Arguably Scorsese’s best. Hysterical, highly entertaining and extremely quotable. Agree

23.2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) – A ballet of visual poetry. Amazing imagination and a great hidden villain. Agree

24.Grapes of Wrath (1940) – No remake can possibly improve upon this adaptation of Steinbeck’s classic novel.Agree

25.Apocalypse Now (1979) – Most exciting war scene ever! Shows the insanity of war. Agree

26.Jaws (1975) – You’ll never swim the same again… even in the tub.Agree

27.Taxi Driver (1976) – My favorite line of all time. DeNiro establishes himself as one of the great American Actors. Agree

28.Rear Window (1954) – Hitchcock does so much with so little space.Agree

29.One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) – An American classic that works perfectly as a comedy and a dramatic story. Last month I would have agreed - but just watched this again a couple weeks ago, and I found it dated and starting to show frayed edges of not aging so well.

30.African Queen, The (1951) – Bogey and Katherine Hepburn. EOM. Agree

31.Schindler's List (1993) – Emotional, powerful and shocking scenes throughout.Agree

32.M*A*S*H (1970) – Funniest war movie ever. Agree

33.Chinatown (1974) - Neo-noir done with great skill and craft. Fascinating character piece done with depth and intrigue. Agree x 2

34.Saving Private Ryan (1998) – Best war scene ever. Agree that the opening scene is one of the horrific war scenes ever shot - tragic and high impact. But, the rest of the movie, for me, was formulaic.

35.Fargo (1996) – Coen Brothers made probably the most splendid modern small budget film ever constructed. Agree

36.Double Indemnity (1944) – Great lines are spitted out at rapid pace just enough for you to soak in the amazing dialogue. The definition of film noir. Agree - sorta. Great film, no question. There are other noirs that I feel epitomize the noir genre more completely. But that's nitpicking. Basically, I agree.

37.French Connection, The (1971) – IMO, best chase scene ever. Best chase scene. Not a best movie IMO

38.West Side Story (1961) – The Romeo and Juliet of musicals. Agree

39.North By Northwest (1959) – Grant and Hitchcock make a classic combination. Agree. Just got the blu-ray - it even BETTER than I remembered it. The crisp print is a joy.

40.Silence of the Lambs (1991) – Probably the most memorable villain of all time with such a small screen time. Agree

41.Midnight Cowboy (1969) – One of the great New York films of all time. Dustin Hoffman was walkin’ there.Agree

42.Apartment, The (1960) – Among my favorite romantic films ever made.Agree

43.Gold Rush, The (1925) – Chaplin is gold. Agree

44.Dr. Strangelove… (1964) – The greatest satire.This is on everybody's best list. I just don't get it. I kinda hate it. Oh, well ...

45.The Searchers (1956) – John Wayne is not just a western icon or a Hollywood icon he’s an American icon. Also has has one of the most memorable group of supporting characters for any film. The best Ford/Wayne film. "Searchers" is good iconic Wayne - but I actually prefer the earlier Ford/Wayne film "Stagecoach." But, I'll agree.

46.King Kong (1933) –The MONSTER of all monster movies. Agree

47.Vertigo (1958) - Just another example of Hitchcock’s genius as a master craftsman. A very haunting movie experience. Agree 100% - My personal Hitchcock favorite.

48.Platoon (1986) – A powerful and sad commentary about the Vietnam war.Embarrassed to say, I've never seen it.

49.City Lights (1931) - Charlie Chaplin's signature film. Has more heart than any other comedy ever made and easily the funniest boxing scene of all time.Agree

50.Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) – Almost every scene brings about a new twist or turn.Agree

51.Deer Hunter, The (1978) – Half great war film, half great ‘coming home’ film. Agree

52.Rocky (1976) – Some of the sequels were memorable, but this is clearly the best one. Agree, this is the best of the Rocky series - but I don't believe it's an A movie - I give it a B-

53.American Graffiti (1973) – Great soundtrack, heartfully nostalgic and classic cars = winner. Agree

54.Some Like it Hot (1959) – Marilyn Monroe is an amazing screen presence. Funny subtle sexual innuendos cleverly done. Great opening scene.Agree

55.Ben-Hur (1959) – Best race scene and one of my favorite music scores.Good movie - though I prefer the silent 1925 version. Will admit some of the below-the-surface homoerotic stuff in the 59 version is a hoot.

56.Dances With Wolves (1990) – Epic Civil War film that dispelled the antagonization of Native Americans in film. Agree

57.Clockwork Orange, A (1971) – Great adaptation and my favorite rendition of Singin’ in the Rain. Agree

58.Amedeus (1984) – Beautiful costume (somewhat-historical) drama that is also funny, thoughtful and tragic.Agree

59.Titanic (1997) – Greatest editing in a film, IMO. Breathtaking action. Extremely technical and historically meticulous. But only the love story is remembered. ugh. Sorry. I just hated this movie. I was bored by the time it was over I couldn't wait to get out of the theatre. I agree, the shots of the ship - especially the beginning - were breathtaking. But the love story (which WAS the movie) is a total Ambien. Think it's the only Leo and/or Kate movie I didn't like.

60.Birth of a Nation (1915) – Birth of film grammar. Cinema’s biggest skeleton in the closet.Agree

61.The General (1927) – Every scene has a different comedic twist that keeps you guessing what will happen. Many believe Buster Keaton, the stone faced actor, exceeds Chaplin in humor. Have never seen it

62.Forrest Gump (1994) – Soundtrack, Leading role, scope, and humor all top notch.Another Titanic for me. A huge crowd pleaser and on everybody's best list - and I just couldn't get through it.

63.To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) – An unforgettable social commentary about the injustices during the time before the civil rights movement.Agree

64.Duck Soup (1933) – There are 2 types of comedy lovers, those who have seen the Marx Brothers and those who haven’t or refuse. Not my favorite movie - but my favorite Marx Bros movie.

65.Manchurian Candidate (1962) – Political thriller defined. Agree

66.Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) – Even I wanted to kill Captain Bligh in this gripping, adventurous tale. Agree - best version of the many

67.Bonnie and Clyde (1967) – America’s fascination with rebellion given its cinematic freedom. Agree

68.Fight Club (1999) – My favorite title sequence ever. Hilariously cynical. ‘Sandbagging’ end. One of my favorite movies - but won't make my best list. It's too convoluted. If I hadn't read the book, I wojld never have known what was going on. But I did know, so it was very enjoyable. For me, not really a best list, more like a guilty pleasure.

69.Maltese Falcon (1941) – Established film noir as a genre. Gotta love the crispness and murkiness of the genre. Tough dames, slick talking detectives and fast paced dialogue. Agree - in spades!

70.Third Man, The (1949) – The zither F T W! Harry Lime classic character. Borgias quote is one of my favorites. Classic noir. Agree

71.Deliverance (1972) – You know the quote. What Jaws did for swimming, this did for redneck country. Haven't seen this in years - since I was a teenager - it creeped me out. Can't say any more)

72.Gladiator (2000) – A great testament to ancient battle history. Awesome music score. Mono e mono! Agree

73.Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) – Aliens coming to Earth as friendly visitors? An exciting welcomed change. Agree

74.Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) – Funny and sharply written buddy western. The best of its kind.Agree

75.Patton (1970) – George C. Scott IS George S. Patton. Opening monologue is an American staple. Opening monologue is amazing - the rest of the movie is just another war bio IMO. Not one of my favorites. And I've tried.

76.Network (1976) – Peter Finch’s rant shook the entire foundation of the 1970s.Agree

77.Easy Rider (1969) – The movie that defined the ‘hippie’ generation. Loved the soundtrack.Agree. (Saw this movie in Kentucky, and the audience stood and CHEERED at the end.)

78.Sixth Sense, The (1999) – If you haven’t heard yet, one of the greatest shock endings of all time. Agree

79.On the Waterfront (1954) - One of the most influential performances by any actor, Brando emerges as one of the greatest method actors ever. Agree

80.All About Eve (1950) - One of the greatest scripts ever and the best film with a female majority cast. Agree - would have moved this one up into the A+ category.

81.Modern Times (1936) – Chaplin’s final appearance as ‘The Tramp’ fittingly ends. The first ‘nose candy’ joke. Haven seen it ☹

82.Sound of Music, The (1965) – You would be surprised with a lot of themes/familiar songs in this film.Agree - though first half is more successful than the second IMO

83.Braveheart (1995) – Aesthetic violence done with precision. Brilliant battle strategies. WILLIAM WALLACE!!!Agree

84.Bringing Up Baby (1938) – My favorite screwball comedy. Interestingly long takes. Shocking animal stunts.Agree

86.Shane (1953) – the greatest bar fight scene ever. My favorite western villain. Beautiful early color cinematography.Agree - I always wanted to name my son Shane

87.Aviator, The (2004) – DiCaprio’s best performance ever. Fascinating biographic historical film. NOt sure about the DiCaprio claim, but, nonetheless, first rate film. Agree

88.Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) – The death of the silent film and birth of the sound film merge.Never had the opportunity to see this

89.Doctor Zhivago (1965) – Epic love story. Lawrence of Arabia of Siberia. Poetic filmmaking.Agree

90.Beautiful Mind, A (2001) – Another shocking twist, only this time way before the end of the film yet still holds up really well through the end. I sorta agree. I thought the performances overrode a somewhat ordinary screenplay. Great story though.

91.Toy Story (1995) – Groundbreaking animated film. Great/fun buddy film.meh. I guess. I don't like animation that much. This is one of the best of the lot

92.From Here to Eternity (1953) – Very appropriate ‘D-day’ film. Lancaster beach make-out scene, is a Hollywood trademark.Agree

93.Sullivan’s Travels (1941) – Funniest chase scene I’ve ever seen. Preston Sturges is a genius.Agree

94.Witness (1985) – Revealed the world of the Amish culture. Ford at his top performance. Agree

100.Marty (1955) – The most lovable character ever. Visceral script. Agree

101.Usual Suspects, The (1995) – Career defining supporting performance. Jaw-dropping twist. Agree x 2 - one of my favorite movies

102.Once Upon a Time in America(1984) – the most unknown great gangster film ever made. Agree

103.Babe (1995) – Family film that strongly appeals to children just as much (if not even more) to adults. meh. does nothing for me.

104.Intolerance (1916) – Breakthrough multiple story lines for a single film. The most influential set decoration ever. Agree - complex movie to make with no dialogue!

105.Night at the Opera, A (1935) – Funniest comedy film climax of all time. Genius skits. hmmm A? Well, okay. Agree. I guess.

106.Yankee Doodle Dandee (1942) – Patriotic and entertaining musical with Cagney at his best. See, he can play a heroic character.Agree - weirdest dancing style in the history of film

107.Cabaret (1972) – Won a lot of Oscars over ‘The Godfather’. Very sexual, foreboding, musical. Talent wise for Minnelli the apple didn’t fall far from the tree.Agree

I could never understand the hoopla over Fargo and Pulp Fiction. I thought those movies sucked. Maybe it was just the cool thing to do back then.

Usually crime films are somewhat bland and ordinary. Both have totally insane situations and I loved the unique style and pacing of both films. The music in both (soundtrack in PF and score in Fargo) are amazing. Also were made on a really low budget. The acting is top notch and screenplays are sharply crafted.

OMG, I laughed until I cried during Fargo - loved it. Just my sense of humor.

Pulp Fiction had it all - laughs, thrills and great music. Love it, too.

The only changes to the A list were Inglorious Basterds and There Will Be Blood - right? I agree with both of them. First rate.

Ah, yes. No Country For Old Men is REALLY good.
It was a good movie.... but I didnt see why it was such a big deal.... I dont think it should have been an Oscar winning movie.

Im not sure what made it "great"

First, great directing and acting - and a fine screenplay. Really good cinematography and fine Carter Burwell score.

I believe this film is every bit as good as The Silence of the Lambs or Psycho - when a director takes an ordinary serial killer movie and elevates it to art.

The acting is top notch and screenplays are sharply crafted.Truthfully, I never got through the entire film for either one because I was too bored and uninterested. But you and Tristan seem to be movie experts, so I'm sure the films must have had some redeeming qualities.

Silence of the Lambs was my favorite movie for a while.... now Id have to go with Gladiator.... great movie.

I read the book Total Recall before I saw the movie...... the movie did do the book justice.... Piers Anthony was the author...... his series Xanth was quite good too.

Next chance I get.... Ill give No Country for Old Men another try.

8 1/2 is fabulous - but, best foreign movie ever? mmmm. I don't agree with that. But it's very good.

That would eliminate The Bicycle Thief, Le Chienne, Ran, Seven Samurai, Contempt, Grand Illusion, Jules and Jim, and a bazillion others. And my own personal favorite, Children of Paradise.

I would call it a pretty impressive list of films.

Just for the fun of it, here are a few of my favorite films:

A Very Long Engagement
12 Monkeys
Brazil (yes, Gilliam is my favorite director!)
2001: A Space Odyssey
Casablanca
American Beauty
City of God
Requiem for a Dream
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

So many other films keep running through my head...Shawshank, LOTR...some eclectic things like The Sweet Hereafter...The Tracy Fragments...Eraserhead...

Not for a while. Been revamping my top 1,000. Hugo is the best of the handful of films I've seen so far this year and I'm not normally a fan of 3D but they did an excellent job and is turning me into a believer. Moneyball, Midnight in Paris, Drive were pretty good. On my list to see: A Separation, The Artist, the Descendants, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Ides of March, A Dangerous Method, Shame, My Week with Marylin, Harry Potter, The Adventures of Tintin, Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy, Take Shelter, X-Men, Carnage, The Tree of Life etc.
