Same as the healthcare issue..
Pour enough money into an issue, and you get the desired result.

It does matter if the president supports or doesn't support gay marriage.
Not like it does in the military (don't ask / don't tell) - he's the " decider" there
as commander in chief.
He's also head of his Party, and can lead Congressional action, influence action if not direct it.
I wish this could be left up to the states, their traditional role in marriage requirements;
but because all states don't have to recognize each others marriages,
it has to be a natiional issue.
I really don't want a Constitutional Amendment, I'd prefer the courts rule, maybe that will happen.
But this has got to be straightened out ( oops bad pun :D ), and if it has to go thru Congress, so be it.

I'm with you Mark, "gayness" is no longer considered deviant behavior in psychology - not for a long time.
that and the misconceptions, and plain bigotry have made it an important cival rights issue now.

True enough, if only the gay community was as wealthy as the pharma and insurance industry.

The statistics are real. The Obama vote was shown by all exit polling to have been the overwhelming cause the proposition passed.
hell I voted for Obama and no on 8.....didn't help.
My Brother and his wife are mormon.....She donated to to Yes on 8 and they both voted yes.

When Iowa is more progressive than California, something is definitely wrong with the picture.

So if Hillary would have won the primary it would have been different?

So if Hillary would have won the primary it would have been different? You know.......that's a really good question, and one I have been pondering since I heard this news today. Its actually kind of old news and I am wondering why it is on CNN today. It was a story that accompanied a quick story of the Clinton's kissing.
I don't think I can say it would be different. But I also know that if Hillary was President.....I would be much happier.
Now if Hillary had gotten the primary ticket.....would those Obama supporters have voted in such mass?

I don't know either but you think the Clinton supporters didn't vote on prop 8 because they may not have wanted to vote for Obama so they just stayed home? Me personally if Clinton had won and I ended up voting for Nader my prop 8 vote would have stayed the same. I definately wouldn't have stayed home and may have voted Clinton but I can't say for sure either way on the presidential end. I have voted Nader before but as much as I was completely fed up with the Republicans I may have voted Democrat no matter the nominee.

I used to think so at first, it was a party splitting primary, and SOMEBODY had to lose the Dem nomination. Super delegates and all that.
For all the rancor in the primary; Hillary is fine, Obama is showing me he's getting a better feel for the job. The Dems are a Big Tent now.
All that matters is OUTCOMES, makes no dif. if Bill, Hill, Or Barack gets this country untangled.

You come up with the coolest shit, Serum. That was gutsy considering the Mormon Mafia. That suit chasing him out of the temple looked like he was fixin' to act out on some serious homophobia.

I just hope the dude wasn't a regular member he would have been singled out by the entire ward. I'm guessing that was probably his last day.

He mentions being concerned about a recent vote within the church and friends that refused to be baptised....my guess was he was leaving the church. I can't find anything that states that he was excommunicated but unless he recanted, apologised and asked for forgiveness that would be the outcome.

Thats one of the great myths about California. Southern California has been pretty conservative for awhile. Orange county to the mexican border. On the lead up to the election yes on prop 8 people were on every other street corner with family values type rhetoric so they certainly were not liberals.

Which begs the question...
What exactly did they gain from that effort?

Yep, California only starts leaning left when you hit Santa Cruz. And that's just along the coast. Inland is full of rednecks.

Except for this conservative oasis called Sacramento. It leans right.
