The "World's Smallest Political Quiz" is a bit oversimplified, but I think their model, with the introduction of the Y-axis, is a good way of demonstrating how libertarianism differs from liberalism or conservatism (and how it is most definitely not centrism).

In my opinion, the y-axis represents the degree of authoritarian ideology held by a philosophy. Using their model, the lower you go on the vertical axis, the more authority is given over to the state. At the very bottom would be totalitarianism: The state has absolute power and total authority over every aspect of life. At the very top would be anarchism: the state has no authority because there is no state. Libertarianism represents the philosophies that you would find at the upper end of this scale, where the state has a minimal degree of power and authority (if it has any at all).

Most people who define themselves as left-wing or right-wing, in my opinion, fall somewhere in the middle of this authoritarian axis, with some leaning more toward libertarianism and some leaning more toward totalitarianism. The difference between left and right is not generally one regarding the amount of authority the state should hold, but where (or against whom) that power should be exercised.

To my mind, a libertarian doesn't really give a damn about the left-right distinction, because from the libertarian perspective, left and right are almost completely meaningless. To a libertarian, an argument between a liberal and a conservative sounds like a discussion between a couple of bank robbers arguing over how best to spend the loot from their last big heist.

I don't like to label things. I believe in government is a necessary evil that should always be the absolute last resort and should only be used when a massive majority of citizens agree it should (not just 51%).

A lot of people are getting sick and tired of government taking their money and telling them they know what is best for it. They are sick of government telling them how to live their personal lives. They are sick of government poking their nose into every aspect of their lives.

Sadly they are in the minority, welfare has created an entire culture of being dependent on the government and class warfare has taught millions of Americans that "those who have more than you, you deserve their money". Throw in the Big Government sheep in the Republican and Democrat parties and you have a majority who is clamoring for the police state.

We are now seeing what this mentality gets you though, a huge, bloated government that is run by Big Business that destroys free enterprise and replaces it with oligopolies with 95% of Washington in their pockets.



A fair solution would be to return to a constitutional federal government where states have the power. Let states compete for jobs, citizens, and tax dollars with a free market of political ideas, the best ones will win out. That way those who want to live in states with huge bloated welfare programs that do more harm than good,t hey can. Those who don't want to, they don't have to. Those who want to live in states where two dudes can't get married, they can,. those who are comfortable enough with their sexuality to think this is OK, they can move to a state where it is OK to do so.

Libertarian ideals for the most part dont mean squat to me, with the exception of some govt over regulation, which is spreading like a malignant tumor..Ive been in the fishing business for 34 years..Sure you need some regs, but WTF?..When you have to call the clam police, before you can leave the dock and tell them that you are going to make a trip, notify them when you are leaving, where you are going, which species you will be targeting, and when you expect to return to port..Atlantic Scallop vessels are mandated to employ VMS trackers..(vessel monoriting systems)..which basically is a black box that records the vessels position at sea, and transmits that information to the National Marine Fisheries Service aka the clam police, and the Coast Guard..These tracking systems are mandatory to participate in the Atlantic Sea Scallop Fishery, and there is some rhetoric in the initial drafting of the regulation that refers to the Homeland Security Act to justify invading your privacy..Its no different that equiping the vessel with a home confinment ankle bracelet with the anticipation that a crime "might" be committed..Fucking child molesters dont have to wear a tracking device for life, nor report to the police when they are leaving their home, where they are going, and when they expect to return, unless they are on home confinment, probation, or parole, and probation and parole does not include calling in daily to report activties

Imagine if Dunkin Donuts was mandated to call the police everyday, and report to them, what time they were going to open, what kind of dounuts they were going to make, how many, and what time they expected to close for the day?

Touted as a "fun" questionnaire but heavily biased. I answered NO to every question in Parts II and III, but still scored 12 which is "leaning." That would probably explain why I'm a centrist Democrat.

When the govt regulates all the independent fishermen out of the business, which is their motive..you think we've got problems with over fishing now?..Wait..You aint seen nothing yet

The Atlantic Ocean Quahog and Surf Clam fishery, is owed by 4 corporations..They own the quota, the per mits and licenses, and the vessels..The whole fucking shabang..And do you know what they did as soon as those 4 corporations sewed the fishery up tighter than a crabs ass?..Atlantic Surf Clams had to be 5 1/2" across at their longest axis prior to the privatization..That is a big fucking clam..After the corporations took the fishery over, the Feds repealed the minimum size legislation, and now they can take clams the size of fucking peanuts if they want..I worked on a boat a few months before that law got repealed..We got boarded by the feds at the dock in Atlantic City and they found some 5" clams in the hold, and they made us go back out to sea and wash over 1,050 bushels of fucking clams, and a couple of months later theres no undersize law anymore..And also prior to the privatization, you could not transfer licenses or permits..One boat..one license..one quota based on historical landings..There were outfits in New Jersey that owned as many as 15 boats to hold those licenses, and some of them were not seaworthy..After the privatization, the Feds changed the regulations and the vessel owners were allowed to transfer licenses, permits, and quotas..So what they did, is they kept the good boats and took the permits, licenses and quotas off the old scows, and consolidated them onto the newer vessels, and brought the old wooden scows up the creek and junked them, some of them sunk, and are probably still up there laying on the bottom..This abilty to transfer paper work put them at an advantage to fish harder weather, and catch more clams..These boats were more efficient period in comparison to the old scow..These boats were bigger, had more horsepower, and towed bigger dredges..They had state of the art navagation systems, GPS Plotters, etc

What was once free of charge and available to any U.S. Citizen, now became the private property of those 4 corporations, just like real estate..And this is what the govt is going to do with all the fisheries..Some big corporations are going to own it all, and you, John Q Public will end up with shit..The govt could have stopped overfishing years ago, and I know how they should have done it, but no, the nickled and dimed everybody to the fucking poor house, so that the independent fishermen had no choice but to sell out, or apply for the govt buyout program..Ya see..heres the thing..the govt could have fixed the fisheries back in the 80's when all this bullshit started..But if they did that, the independent fishermen would be thriving today, because the fisheries would have abundant biomasses..This has been a fucking game between the fishermen, the Feds and the green groups..The green groups are up in arms about the damage trawl nets and scallop dredges do to the ocean floor..Let me tell you something..there is nothing..more destructive than a fuckng clam dredge, and now that the clam fishery is own by those corporations, they can do what the fuck they want..Nobody from the Fed, from NOAA, from the Conservation Law Foundation, from the Pew Charitable Trust Foundation, no-fucking-body gives a shit what those guys do anymore..You couldnt pick up a fisheries magazine without seeing an article about the dire straits condition of the clam fishery..After the privatization, you couldnt find an article about the fishery anywhere, negative or positive anymore peroid!

When the govt regulates all the independent fishermen out of the business, which is their motive..you think we've got problems with over fishing now?..Wait..You aint seen nothing yet

The Atlantic Ocean Quahog and Surf Clam fishery, is owed by 4 corporations..They own the quota, the per mits and licenses, and the vessels..The whole fucking shabang..And do you know what they did as soon as those 4 corporations sewed the fishery up tighter than a crabs ass?..Atlantic Surf Clams had to be 5 1/2" across at their longest axis prior to the privatization..That is a big fucking clam..After the corporations took the fishery over, the Feds repealed the minimum size legislation, and now they can take clams the size of fucking peanuts if they want..I worked on a boat a few months before that law got repealed..We got boarded by the feds at the dock in Atlantic City and they found some 5" clams in the hold, and they made us go back out to sea and wash over 1,050 bushels of fucking clams, and a couple of months later theres no undersize law anymore..And also prior to the privatization, you could not transfer licenses or permits..One boat..one license..one quota based on historical landings..There were outfits in New Jersey that owned as many as 15 boats to hold those licenses, and some of them were not seaworthy..After the privatization, the Feds changed the regulations and the vessel owners were allowed to transfer licenses, permits, and quotas..So what they did, is they kept the good boats and took the permits, licenses and quotas off the old scows, and consolidated them onto the newer vessels, and brought the old wooden scows up the creek and junked them, some of them sunk, and are probably still up there laying on the bottom..This abilty to transfer paper work put them at an advantage to fish harder weather, and catch more clams..These boats were more efficient period in comparison to the old scow..These boats were bigger, had more horsepower, and towed bigger dredges..They had state of the art navagation systems, GPS Plotters, etc

What was once free of charge and available to any U.S. Citizen, now became the private property of those 4 corporations, just like real estate..And this is what the govt is going to do with all the fisheries..Some big corporations are going to own it all, and you, John Q Public will end up with shit..The govt could have stopped overfishing years ago, and I know how they should have done it, but no, the nickled and dimed everybody to the fucking poor house, so that the independent fishermen had no choice but to sell out, or apply for the govt buyout program..Ya see..heres the thing..the govt could have fixed the fisheries back in the 80's when all this bullshit started..But if they did that, the independent fishermen would be thriving today, because the fisheries would have abundant biomasses..This has been a fucking game between the fishermen, the Feds and the green groups..The green groups are up in arms about the damage trawl nets and scallop dredges do to the ocean floor..Let me tell you something..there is nothing..more destructive than a fuckng clam dredge, and now that the clam fishery is own by those corporations, they can do what the fuck they want..Nobody from the Fed, from NOAA, from the Conservation Law Foundation, from the Pew Charitable Trust Foundation, no-fucking-body gives a shit what those guys do anymore..You couldnt pick up a fisheries magazine without seeing an article about the dire straits condition of the clam fishery..After the privatization, you couldnt find an article about the fishery anywhere, negative or positive anymore peroid!Being a liberal you're most likely oblvious to the fact that government has their dirty little hands in everyone's business, not just yours...It's what you wanted, bozo.
