View Full Version : Should We Discuss And Learn From The Past?
My first history teacher taught me that you have to learn from the past in order to avoid making the mistakes. Of course by the time he told me that I think I had already put that into practice but just hadn't formalized it in a clear concise thought at age 7 or 8.
Do you come here to learn, discuss or just make a point?
I hear so many people simply repeating words from pundits, and that include all pundits.
I also see people writing stupid thoughts like "Newsflash- Bush isn't President anymore" and "Nuff said".
We have to learn from the past and we have to openly discuss if we are to learn anything.
Of course if you have no desire to learn and just feel the need to make a point or have a feeble desire to be right than you might want to take a good look at your life. I remember the most disturbing I ever saw on any board was a man that thought it mattered to me if he was right or not. I still have a hard time imaging what a deep level of emotional damage this man has.

I went through and read the thread. He didn't seem to be loosing any argument. I didn't really see how you supported your position other than using some third party unamed engineers that may or may not exist. Last time I checked that doens't hold up as evidence...

Same here, I have back up an estimate for the cost to my business concerning my career but he doesn't have to back up his 30 years experience. This is typical moderation that goes on, "it's my board and I don't have to follow the same rules"

It would help your case tremendously if you simply point out specifically where he lied and he can either disagree or apologize. Since you made the claim, the onus is on you to prove it. He is not being unreasonable, but you are.

Certainly there must be some evidence or white paper in the world of the Internet that comes close to supporting your claim of 20 times MACT Standards since so many companies would want to make that information public.

I have not shared anything that was confidential and won't. Since cap and trade has not passed there is nothing out there that I am aware of. But it is naive to think that no coal burning site is not looking at the cost of alternatives and what locations will be closed if it passes. I think it is funny you are hung up on that one ratio and missed the whole meat of the discussion. As long as there are people like you out there saying "fuck you" to manufacturing and industry we will continue to lose companies and fall further than number 2 on the best economy list.
I think it is very sad that you think everything has to be on the internet or it is automatically a lie. My story has been the same all along.
Now what about that 30 years or is it 28 now? Do I hear 26?
BTW- there is 29.3076 GJs in 1 ton of coal.

I never said he lied. I agree with wayers to the extent that cap and trade will fucking damage industry. You cannot expect significant capital costs for upgrades to meet standards to not have an impact plus the additional cost of purchasing credits if you cannot make those upgrades.
If anyone is laying out bullshit, it's Moby for suggesting that people are "buying into" some ideology".
wayers posted some numbers and it made fucking sense.

The 70's when you could light a river on fire w/ a match....
You could go fishing & catch nothing as many "American" rivers were dead... & in the ones that there were still a few fish alive they were inedible..:(

All of my associates know as well. I find it hard to believe you can even comment on it at all unless you are in an industry that uses coal for energy recovery. You still haven't shown where you are qualified to make any judgement.
