I don't know about the rest of you that voted for Obama, but I am pretty much fed up with this mess.
It is obvious that no matter what Obama does, conservatives/Republicans are going to oppose it, so bipartisanship is not an option.
If the American people wanted Republicans running the country John McCain would be President.
It is time for Obama to realize, HE is the President and running the country and doing what is best for the American people is HIS responsibility which pretty much means, you don't pass the writing of the healthcare bill off to Congress. You send them YOUR bill and then only give up as much ground as you HAVE to.
This has gotten to the point of absurd with letting illbred creatins that will heckled a woman in a wheelchair suffering from two fatal illnesses dictate what you do. If that is what we have in Obama, I think we have made a major mistake and look forward to being able to put him out of office come the next election.
I will hope that he finds his nads and will do what the American people sent him to Washington to do.

I agree with you. At first I hardily supported Obama's attempts to work with both sides for the good of this country until the reality of the situation hit me in the face. There is no negotiating with "cretins." Obama has the power. He should use it.

Senior,
WTF are you talking about . . . . AlGore/McCain?
Please tell me what dems tried to stop Bush from doing . . . torture, throwing American citizens in prison without charging them with anything or allowing them access to a lawyer, spying on American citizens on the whim of one man without any judicial oversight. How unreasonable of those Democrats. Gee, with all the laws that were being broken are you of the mind that they should have agreed with them so we would have both parties pissing on the Constitution and our laws instead of just having one.
I don't think we are comparing apples to apples here.

Uh.. I think almost the entire country was behind Bush after 9/11. The Iraq war even received support from all sides of the political spectrum.
So his argument is moot from its very beginning.

\\Gotta agree with you on this one.
911 was an extreme shock to America. No one even considered the fact that we could become victims. At least regular Americans just going about their day to day activities. No one in the civilian population was ready for something like this and it "shocked" the nation.
Did Bush overstep the authority he was given? Maybe, but I still think he did a damn good job, all things considered. Especially when you consider he had no precedent to gauge his response to. I think he did what he thought had to be done at the time and for the most part it seemed to have worked. WE haven't been attacked since. At least not yet.
The rest of the so called overseers (Congress) went along with it and now they are bitching about it.

I am one of Obama's staunchest supporters, but it is time for him to stand up and stand out. This is why Bill Clinton was so respected, because he stood up to his critics, paid no mind to any backlash, and all in an intelligent manner. He raised his voice when necessary and it was quite effective! He knew there is no such thing as pleasing everyone, it's an impossibility. To be honest, if Bill had been running against Obama, I would have voted for Bill.
There is a time and a place for everything, and this is the time for Pres. Obama to stand up for the citizens who trust and believe he will do what he says. Instead of all these indoctrination rumors, why doesn't Obama give them something real to talk about? Because, he absolutely cannot remain on the fence and let his good breeding get in the way of what this country needs; necessary change.

Sounds like a valid point... but Al Qaeda attacked us during the first year of Clinton's administration as well.
And what did he do?
Clinton cut defense to levels that undermine national security. After promising during the 1992 campaign to cut $60 billion from defense, Clinton actually cut $127 billion.
"Training cutbacks late in the federal fiscal year aren't unusual: but this September's freeze was the worst many senior officers have seen since the late 1970's, the height of the so-called post-Vietnam hollow Army. The situation got so bad at one point that Secretary of Defense William Perry invoked a little-used law, the Feed and Forage Act, permitting the military to spend for one week money it doesn't really have." U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT, 10/10/94
And the country wasn't attacked again until after Dubya took office. And using SC's logic of the current president taking responsibility of everything that happens "under his watch" how would you explain it GWB's approach to fighting terrorism?

Clinton screwed up by destroying a building which supplied medication necessary to children, but he did it because his information was faulty.
Bush wouldn't have done a thing about terrorism if we hadn't been attacked in my personal opinion. Of course he used overkill in his methods and now we are very much despised and mocked.
As for Obama, I do understand trying to get along with other nations peacefully, it's his trying to get along with all his critics that baffle me.

Congress did NOT go along. They did what any responsible citizen would do under such circumstances. They were asked by the President to give him the authority to act quickly should circumstances warrant, so they gave him that authority. There was no vote on approval to invade Iraq. There was no concensus on the need to invade the country . . . quite the contrary. Had Bush not lied to Congress, telling them that he was just looking for the authority so he could move quickly should the NEED arise, their vote, no doubt would have been much different. I don't know what speech conservatives listened to, but the one that Bush gave said nothing about a declaration of war or an immediate deployment of troops, just that he needed the authority should circumstances warrant and even went so far as to say that he would not even consider deployment until all other avenues were exhausted. Then he immediately ordered the inspection team out of Iraq and started a war. If this is what you call a "good job", I would have to question your honesty and understanding of acting responsibly. If you respect con men and law breakers, then Bush is your man. Fortunately, most Americans set higher standards for themselves and for those they put in office. But, it does seem that those standards are never met when we put a Republican in office. Please name one Republican that has been in office over the past 50 years that did not end up with him and those of his administration either circumventing the Constitution or breaking the law or being the administration that handed out all the pardons for the previous administration, but this is what you consider doing a "good job". I pity you and I pity our country if you and yours ever get to run it again.

Marika,
You are right. Clinton did try to deal with this problem long before we were attacked and if Republicans had cared nearly as much about their country as they did about trying to get back in power, 9/11 would probably have never happened.
And here we are again. Republicans putting party ahead of country. No matter what Obama does, they will try to defeat it because their only way back into power is to undermine Obama's success. They ALWAYS put party first and country second and this is why there will never be bipartisanship.
Had 9/11 not happened, Geoge W would have continued on his merry way staying on vacation the majority of the time. He did not deal with the crisis of 9/11. He used it as an excuse to get us into Iraq. If you go back to his campaign speeches before the 2000 election, you will find that one of his major themes was finishing the job that his father didn't.
All studies show that upon Bush's leaving office our borders were less safe than when he came in. Our ports have less security and would be in the hands of the people that financed 9/11 if Bush had had his way. We are less safe because we are now hated by even more people than we were before. We are in two wars that are draining us financially, our economy is in a shambles, but conservatives still say that Bush did a "good job". What would it take for these people to think a President they put in office did a bad job? The man came to office with the CBO projecting surpluses as far as the eye could see and took us to deficits instead. The man reverted back to the failed economic policies that had Clinton running on, "It's the economy, Stupid" and then everyone was surprised when he go the same results that Reagan and his father got. How many times are Republicans going to use this same failed strategy and then act all surprised when they get the same failed results. But, it is only a failure if you are in the middle class. It is happy days are here again if you are rich.
And therein lies the problem with having Republicans run the country.

Yes, and each time a Democrat is president, the mess is cleaned up, but before too long, a Republican is voted back in, one in particular by dishonest means, and it starts all over again.
Bush may have been thought of as a hero after 9/11, but his and his good ol boy cronies lust for bloodshed and power diminishes the original objective, which was supposed to be WMD's. I still recall the darkness that seemed to envelop the world, a deep depression was everywhere. And those who opposed the war just stopped caring about even the smallest pleasures(unless they were on the receiving end of oil companies) They became apathetic and glassy eyed like those with no hope, because there was no hope..the war was never going to end. But then they woke up and started getting angry. And that anger turned to the activism that lit a fire under democrats.
I often think if Gore had been our rightful president, how many young men and women in our military would still be alive today? How many innocent Iraqi citizens? The legacy Bush leaves is despicable and I do not feel safer one iota. Yet, instead of welcoming a positive change, we are subjected daily to an onslaught of almost treasonous, and surely bigoted slander against our current president. Just as Chris Matthews so eloquently stated, that it is about one thing only and that is Obama's background and he was going to leave it at that.

Once again, those in Congress did not vote a declaration of war. They voted to give Bush the AUTHORITY to use for if NECESSARY. There is a major difference between giving authority when someone is telling you that he will NOT use that authority until all other avenues have been exhausted and being on board for invading a country that had nothing to do with our being attacked by Al Queda.
Bush had made his wishes known during the campaign that he was itching to get into Iraq to finish what he felt his father hadn't and he USED the deaths of 3,000 people as an EXCUSE. To my way of thinking, this is not anything I would consider doing a good job.
As for what Clinton did or tried to do . . . he told us that we needed to clean out the terrorist camps in Afghanistan and would have done just that if Republicans didn't care more about trying to discredit him than they did about protecting our country.
