View Full Version : Really sad how partisanly (is this a word) divided now

I am hearing people complaining that some schools will show a video where President Obama addresses students. This was common when I was a kid, we would watch video addresses from the president all the time, Reagan, Bush I and Clinton. No one cared. Now it's a huge issue apparently.
The politicians love this, they have divided us so well that we will continue to fight amongst ourselves instead of standing up to them. Whether it's the "lesser of two evils" nonsense or just being a flat out loyal sheep to the party, the number of independent thinkers in this country is shrinking rapidly.
Seems to get worse and effect more people everyday. I am finding once Libertarian friends constantly bashing obama and reciting right wing talking points. Moby is a great example form the board, I started posting here over 2 years ago, Moby was a smart, independent thinking, rational guy. He has completely succumb to two party politics now where he is nothing but a Democrat party sheep who recites nothing but left wing talking points and attacks, almost every post references Fox news in some way.
It's really getting sad how bad the party politics has gotten in this country. This board is again, a great example, 90% of the posts are right/left wing talking points or just copy and pastes from far right and left wing blogs as new.

Well I agree w/ almost all of that but I think there is a point you should reconsider here...
You are more than welcome to your opinion of someone elses opinion but you may wish to consider some of your reasoning/conclusions: According to your own reasoning (which I mostly agree w/ here)...
You are stating someone is a democratic sheep...... While also accusing him of left wing talking points while simultaneously admitting that the dem party is not much different then the other party & thus not leftest..
If someone is espousing left wing talking points they would seem to be in contradiction/opposition to rather than in support of either like party :dunno:

You're correct. It's gotten very sad. And most of those posts I don't even bother to read, much less comment on. Time is too important to spend it reading something that is immensly long and/or negative.
As far as I'm concerned, America could drop the two party system and just vote indep. I have grown very weary of all the infighting between parties, that which carries over onto political boards. We've stooped very low in this country by constantly squabbling over anything we set our minds to. It's a waste of energy... The time these parties spend fighting amongst themselves, they could be combining their efforts into solving Americas problems and making this country the best its ever been.....

Partys attach themselves to divisive issues and thats what shapes those who follow. Or visa-versa.
But the truth is polls will impact their opinion more than their principals.
I dont even believe these guys believe anything any more.
Public servants, what a crock.

So Bill how do you agree with me and trust gov to solve big issues?
You and I as different as we are, could sit down and solve these problems better than those bums we elect.
We would only have to solve the problem not appease every tomm dick and harry.

Politics today is all about who gets the power and has little or nothing to do with what is best for this country.
It is all an ego trip for the politicians.
Everybody should reregister as independents and let them try to figue out which side you are on. If we had no political parties then neither side could be guaranteed a certain number of votes.
No one should answere any polls and all campaign contributions should be ended.
Give the candidates limited, free, equal, newspaper advertsing and TV time to tell us their positions and then we can vote on the one we believe will be the best one.
Do this for a period of six months and then that's it.
or
stick them in a room together with ice picks and the last one standing gets to be President.
Can't be any worse than what we are all putting up with now.

I believe the gov can do some things well but not all things... Somethings are handled better by gov (the ppl) not private enterprise..
Private roads?? Not a good idea??
Private police??
Private fire departs??
Private armies??
Imgine all roads are toll roads. Their own rules/laws.. SOme better paved so not paved.. You don't like it drive around...
Did I pay my fire department bill last month??
Imagine if they had clauses like in health insurance... We don't put out fires started by lightening on Tuesdays.. We received a partial payment last month so we will only put out half the fire...

Kres,
I guess the question is who is causing the problem. Didn't Obama try to include the Republicans in the writing of the healthcare bill? Who is it that has made it clear that no matter how much Obama gives in to them that they will keep moving the goal posts?
The process has been . . . Obama called all those involved in healthcare to meetings and allowed the American people to hear what was being discussed in prime time coverage with those present answering questions from each group . . . health insurance companies, healthcare providers, AARP, those with insurance and those without. Next came allowing those in Congress (both Republicans and Dems, liberals and conservatives) to draw up these proposed bills. Next came the Republicans making it clear that they would only approve a bill that stayed with the status quo so that they can keep getting their big payoffs from the health insurance companies. Next came the Republicans sending busloads of hecklers to disrupt Dems from being allowed to get the message out to make the people know what is REALLY in the bills that have been proposed.
Doesn't it seem that you are showing the world that you are wrong if you can't allow open and honest discussion?
So, it is like Obama said of our enemies. He will offer his hand, but they will have to open their fist if they are to shake hands. Republicans refuse to open their fist.
Face it, people. This is about the goal of the Republican party and conservatives is to oppose everything that Obama wants because if he succeeds they will not get back in power. Just look at the past eight years and it will be obvious that they are not about doing what is best for the American people, but are all about doing what best benefits THEIR bottom line.

I sort of agree. Except democrats are going to do the things that will make them rich and powerful too. It just seems like the Republicans have gone crazy and don't care at all about the state of the country...

It is human nature to look out for number one, but conservatives and Republicans have taken this to an art form. They just do not care about anything or anyone other than what can get them back in power. They failed miserably, but act like having them run the country whether elected to office or not is an ENTITLEMENT.

Government could exspect repayment for schooling loans in form of service from new doctors and a program similar to sr-22 auto insurance for difficult to insure could help.
But exspecting government to reduce costs is an out and out lie.
They could enforce some regs in that area but they have no record of operating efficiently ever.

As a libertarian I have no political party representing me other than the libertarian party who I strongly dissagree with on their open borders policy.
In my opinion open borders and amnesty is the most destructive one thing that could happen to America because once done it is unfixable.
Anyway getting back to the subject, I concentrate most of my critisism at the democrat party and particularly Obama because they are the ones in power.
I will work with anyone to improve our political problems but I detest liberals and see no hope for them ever becoming part of the solution instead of the problem.
Liberals are the mindless puppets of the marxist who attack from within to destroy America and rebuild it into what they believe will be a socialist utopia.
I realize all Obama supporters are not liberals and many were just victims of media manipulation or simply fed up and actually believed Obama represented change.
Unlike the wise and worldly Hog, many Americans can be fooled by slick talking politicians and their friends in the main stream media...I can work with these people.
