"MAY 24--In a recent raid on an al-Qaeda safe house in Iraq, U.S. military officials recovered an assortment of crude drawings depicting torture methods like "blowtorch to the skin" and "eye removal." Along with the images, which you'll find on the following pages, soldiers seized various torture implements, like meat cleavers, whips, and wire cutters. Photos of those items can be seen here. The images, which were just declassified by the Department of Defense, also include a picture of a ramshackle Baghdad safe house described as an "al-Qaeda torture chamber." It was there, during an April 24 raid, that soldiers found a man suspended from the ceiling by a chain. According to the military, he had been abducted from his job and was being beaten daily by his captors. In a raid earlier this week, Coalition Forces freed five Iraqis who were found in a padlocked room in Karmah. The group, which included a boy, were reportedly beaten with chains, cables, and hoses. Photos showing injuries sustained by those captives can be found here. (12 pages)"

It seems really strange that such a manual needed to have so many drawings in pastel colors. That would mean that they needed a color copier to reproduce the manual but didn't seem to have the tech needed to take photos.

Things that make you go, "Hmmmm......"

It is quite possible the people who made this book did not have access to anything other then markers or pastels. Let’s remember something here; they come from a backwards way of life and thinking. Most live/hide in villages where the latest technology is a transistor radio from the 70’s. A friend of mine who just came home from the sandbox told me of a village he patrolled in where the locals were shocked to see a ballpoint pen. They had never seen one in their lives. Now I'm not saying this book is real. I have no idea. But one thing I do know, is they do perform these methods on there own people and I don't need a book to prove it to me. I agree with EX in the sense that these methods are only tools used to instill fear to the local populous. Most of the time the tortured person is not killed but held for a period of time (1 week to a few months) and tortured to an extreme then let go. This does a few things, one it freaks out the locals who have no idea if the person is dead or alive. Two when the person does return the stories and site of the injuries are so horrific the populous refuses to act against anyone who they know is Al Qaeda or a terrorist because of fear. It is useful for a period of time but after a while backfires as the local elders of tribes will band together and seek out a lesser evil for help so they can go back to farming with no issues. These people are watched on a constant basis from each other, no one knowing 100% who is their friend and who is their foe that starts to wear a person down after a while and they will strike back. This is why the cells are constantly moving. They not only know it’s a matter of time before they are hunted down by US forces but also the very people they instill fear to. Using methods like this are not ways to extract good intel from a person. Studies have shown time and time again 99% of the time a tortured person will over time tell you anything you want to hear in order to stop the torture. Methods like these are only useful in extreme cases where time is of the utmost and even then it's just a hopeful shot in the dark that the intel derived is worth anything.
