what were the dates in '69?
There is a new version coming out with some tunes from the Band, and additional Ten Years After tunes.
40 years, and they're just releasing it?
What are they waiting for, the Assisted Living Anniversary?

It's a pick of Tom Petty at the Hollywood premeire of the movie
Running Down a Dream - a great rocumentary of the band.
I was looking for the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Logo
the "guitar and heart"
http://www.purplemoon.com/Stickers/TomPetty.jpg
i don't kow how to crop the image to 100 x 100, i'm still looking for a upload url
My sig line is from The Traveling Wilburys song "Wilbury Twist"
That was George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne's creation when they all came together for 2 weeks of sessions
Bill Cosby

August 15-17.
By all accts. everything Woodstock was one major clusterfuck. The mania comes and goes, but I'm sure the 40th anniversary was an opportunity to ride the wave of popularity, and release "more stuff".
Kinda like releasing movies just before Christmas.
Notice the release of the movie "Taking Woodstock".
Freekin thing wasn't even shot on site, nor anywhere near the town of Bethel

It was anything BUT a clusterfuck, unless you literally mean some of the actual fucking going on.
But the nudity, was mostly benign, and the music was KICK ASS.
Maybe you have to be an old hippie like me to appreciate it, but whenever I see the flick, I end up watching the thing.
Of course it's taken a life of it's own, and become a marketable product.
But look at the movie, look at the fun, no showers, mud ,lack of toilets, run out of food, and no-one cared as long as the bands played.
Compare that to the sterile stadium tours that followed.

But now that you mention it I can see it.
You have got to see the movie Running Down a Dream produced by Bogdonovich (sp) if you are Heartbreakers Fan.
It's around on DVD
Lots of background, and a concert shot at Gainesville Fl. ( his hometown)
which I saw that was fabulous. I think it was october '06 or '07.

Nope...it was a clusterfuck. Promoters lost their asses....and then the lawsuits started. They planned for 50,000 people...they had that many by Thurs.. No gates could keep the crowds out, so it became a free concert.
Traffic backed up halfway to NYC, no facilities, the locals.....remember the times back then....were freeking out. Poor Max Yasgur had a heart attack a few years later. His property was trashed, and he too was sued by his neighbors.
But...I'm glad you had a good time. A lot of people did.

Gotta love the vault!
Did you watch the trailer? You don't think that was a clusterfuck?:taunt:
I've got a buddy who's a graphic artist. He used to do the posters for the Dead, and others when he was out in Haight Ashbury.
He happened to notice one of his posters for sale at "the vault" all these years later...it even had his signature..
He ended up buying it for a (big) handful of dollars.....doesn't seem right.
Have you seen the flick? I'll prob. go check it out.

that is NOT a clusterfuck.
( I wasn't there -i was only 14, my parents wouldn't let me go, despite an invite )
It was an overwhelming response to the times and the tunes, a perfect combination. "Peace Luv, and Music" -despite all the logistical problems, no-one went bizarro, everyone let their hair down, everybody had a good time.
A small window on what this planet could be like with a little love and music.
The stars will never align like that again.
It was just a "happening", that i don't think will ever be repeated.
Can you imagine what would be the reaction now?
ppl getting all pissed off, pulling guns, cops swarming over everything.
Lawsuits" Lawyers, Guns and Money" ( W. Zevon)
Man. It was a totally different vibe than the bullshit money grubbing times we are in now.
Altamont raceway, and the Stones concert was your clusterfuck

my Bodhisattva in Ca. ALSO did a lot of Graphics for the Dead, and a lot of
new world images. Small world.
Hey Man " it isn't right" the whole fucking world " isn't righteous."
The WORLD is a clusterfuck, peeps don't give a shit about anyone but themselves.
For 3 days all that bad karma never surfaced.
Woodstock was 3 days of peace love and music.
It was a one time thing, will NEVER happen again.
Remember when we used to call each other " brother" or " sister"?
now it's "what's up Dude," or "out of my way, MF".

I came upon a child of god
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, where are you going
And this he told me
Im going on down to Yasgurs farm
Im going to join in a rock n roll band
Im going to camp out on the land
Im going to try an get my soul free
We are stardust
We are golden
And weve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden
Then can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
And I feel to be a cog in something turning
Well maybe it is just the time of year
Or maybe its the time of man
I dont know who l am
But you know life is for learning
We are stardust
We are golden
And weve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden
By the time we got to woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was song and celebration
And I dreamed I saw the bombers jet planes
Riding shotgun in the sky
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation
We are stardust
Billion year old carbon
We are golden
Caught in the devils bargain
And weve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

Woodstock was the same legal bullshit that you mention. It's just that nobody talks about it. I'm working out near the town of Woodstock this week, and they've been putting a bunch of old interviews on the radio.
As much as we'd love to believe it wasn't happening, the lawyers/managers were all backstage arguing over who was going to go on next, etc.
What we had back then, was a common goal. The Vietnam war had everyone up in arms, and the time was right for revolution.
Yes...that spirit has passed forever. Perhaps because we learned that the system is rigged in such a way, as to never allow true change. We were naive back then. We got the 18 year old vote, but nobody bothered to vote...
Any venture...and there have been many...that tries to make money off of the Woodstock happening, is doomed to failure. It must be a karma thing. It truly was a special event. Never to be reproduced....although many try to bring it back exactly as it was.
But....a 100 mile traffic jam, with emergency highway closings, is a clusterfuck!

Man, if that's the way you wanna look at it, that's ok.
Of course the the thing was chaotic, they had to helicopter some bands in.
Who was the organizer? I forgot his name,
( the dude wheeling around on the motorcycle in the film).
He knew it was a $$ bust.
Didn't seem like he was too upset about it.
Nothings perfect, no-one expected a 500,000 crowd.
Despite all that, and the back stage "who's next" - no bad shit happened, except for the legendary "brown acid".
It was MUCH more than an anti-vietnam event. it was about "take good care of your brother" ( Jackson Browne).
Yes. Nam was on everyone minds - but it transcended that.
ppl shared the food, the dope, the land, the music...everything.

some of the townsfolk were "freaked" out, some were OK.
All that shit about lawsuits, hell do you recall the breakup of the Beatles?
George even did a song " Sue me Sue You Blues"
sure when the thing was ove with it was a mess, things were back to the normal lawyers, money, etc.
Sorry to hear about Max - but his good blessings should have gotten him some " karma points" for the next turn on The Wheel.
3 days man. that's all I'm saying.
Can we just focus on that for these 3 days?
Then we can all go about our money grubbing material world ways.

Hey !
remember during the primary, McCain went after HRClinton for earmarking the Woodstock museum?
HRCLinton was too afraid to confront him on the cultural issue.
That little prick figured he was stuck at the Hanoi Hilton, so why should them damn hippies be having all the fun??
Freaking war pigs lapped it up. " har har"
