View Full Version : One of the best explanations why Obama won the election

From a teacher in the Nashville area:

"We were worried about "the cow" when it was all about the "Ice Cream".

The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade this year.
The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest.
I decided we would have an election for a class president.
We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote.
To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members.
We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have.
We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.
The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids.
I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support.
I had never seen Olivia's mother.
The day arrived when they were to make their speeches.
Jamie went first.
He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best.
Everyone applauded and he sat down.
Now it was Olivia's turn to speak.
Her speech was concise.
She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream."
She sat down.
The class went wild. "Yes! Yes!
We want ice cream."
She surely would say more. She did not have to.
A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream?
She wasn't sure.
Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it.
She didn't know.
The class really didn't care.
All they were thinking about was ice cream.
Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a landslide.
Every time Barack Obama opened his mouth he offered ice cream and 52 percent of the people reacted like nine year olds.
They want ice cream.
The other 48 percent know they're going to have to feed the cow and clean up the mess."

Remember, the government cannot give anything to anyone that they have not first taken away from someone else.

Only because you're blind to the truth.

You voted for a sweet-talker who promised you whatever you wanted; without going into the dirty details.

not the best analogy, but the Obamatrons who lapped up every word in pure Rapture...
well "they be hypnotized" is the kindest way i can think of to put it.

Hillary supporters: " Obama doesn't walk on water you know"
Obamatrons : " How do you know he doesn't?"
etc.

I didn't vote for two reasons. One, I was not old enough to vote. Two, I'm a Canadian citizen.

Your appeal to jingoism is not serious. Cliche phrases such as "You're blind to the truth," does not serve you well.

What it does accomplish, however, is exemplify laziness. It characterizes a poster with nothing original to add. A poster on the hurry. Quick to reply. With nothing substantial to say.

In depth conversation takes time and you don't take time to state much.

Its not what a lazy poster does. Not in his genes.

I stand by what I said in response to the brainless of the first post in this thread. I will back it up stubbornly.

Don't come at me with unoriginal appeals to tired catch phrases.

You can do better than that.

What a mind fuck this is.

I didn't use it as a "cliche" phrase. It's a normal part of english language. WTF?

And as far as "nothing sustantial to say" - no I don't have anything substantial to say, concerning your "lazy poster" comment.

you got it. they were dead meat after Bush.

I don't see anything changing either -who has national stature?
Who can run with when the Repubs are just "no" to reforms?

any ideas who could be a candidate?
Romney perhaps if Obama destroys the economy.

But if Obama does anywhere near a decent job, i really don't see any challenge. It's early, but i don't see any GOP Hope on the horizon.

Its hard to avoid a point thats not there. You don't see the analogy? Wow. This is perhaps the most accurate explanation I've ever seen. Like the children who voted on the promise of "ice cream, 52% of people were sold on two trite and shallow words; "hope and change" and the promise they would get "free shit", i.e., free healthcare, college, babysitters, a "check from the rich", etc. etc.

How did he promise to pay for it? He didn't know. They didn't care. Like the nine-year olds, their eyes were on the prize; "free shit". And now, we have a FUBAR mess and the country is more divided than it was under Bush.

Hope and change, alright.

Bingo.

The truth of this is so glaringly obvious, you would think
wingnuts would get it. But they don't. They just can't
admit the truth.

As everyone here knows, I wanted the Clintons back
in the White House, so I can't be accused of being
"sweet-talked" by Obama.

After 8 years of the disastrous Bush-Cheney Regime,
I would have voted for any Democrat who could get
the Neocons out of power.

Obama accomplished that.

So forget all your "sweet talk" horseshit, and take an
honest look at the disastrous presidency of your hero,
George W. Bush.

That's why Obama won.

You don't see the analogy?

No, I do not.

No objective observer would.

Its brainless nonsense that does not even remotely resemble reality.
