John Edwards has never tried to legislate morality. So his hypocrisy only lies within the confides of his family. What he did was terrible, but I am glad he is stepping up and is willing to be 100% honest about the entire situation.

But from a political standpoint, this means absolutely nothing. He is a politician who happened to cheat on his wife. Which is much different than a politician who stands on a moral pedestal and then goes off and cheats on his wife.
