I know I shouldn't get my hopes up and I feel another Ross Perot style disappointment coming my way, but Michael Bloomberg is toying with the idea of running for President. Rumor has it that he'd spend his own money to finance the whole shebang and he's considering a Republican running mate Chuck Hagel as a VP.
Bloomberg is a smart man, he's done a great job with NYC, he's exactly in the center politically. In my opinion he's what the country needs...someone running as an independent, has ties with both parties, but isn't a slave to either party.
Bloomberg '08, I think finally have my 3rd party candidate that can win.

The hell w/Bloomberg. He wouldn't be mayor if it hadn't been for 9/11 & he rode Goofyani's revived coattails as a result. Mark Green should've been the mayor but 9/11 coincidentally happened on the very day NYC was to hold its mayoral primaries. NYC was conned into to voting GOP as a result of 9/11. Bloomberg was democrat who ran as GOP. To hell with him & Goofyani.

You're way too dedicated to labels. Bloomberg is hardly a Republican, he spent most of his life as a democrat, he's more or less a moderate. He's actually done a really good job as Mayor of NYC. Fiscally Conservative, Socially Liberal, he really offers a nice balance between the extremes.
It's funny you mention Mark Green, he barely won the primary against Fernando Ferrer and during that campaign he did use some questionable and some may say racist spin against Ferrer.

Bloomberg would do well with the same crowd that liked Forbes but I think he would die quickly past the primaries - he may have the money but he doesnt have the machine and its way too late to start one

I disagree, if he earmarks a billion, and runs on the platform of change, pushes the outsider that can bring the parties together, etc, he has a good chance of pulling it off.
I think his chances jump depending on what the Democrats do in congress. If they do nothing, let the Republicans wallow in Iraq, and ignore what got them elected in '06...they'll be in serious trouble for a third party candidate like Bloomberg.

Just to add...A lot has to do with who the Reps and Dems pick. I think there's a few strong candidates that would overshadow someone like Bloomberg. However, there's some candidates that are so Right or Left, that they ignore the middle. Bloomberg country...the middle....if both parties ignore the middle and go for their core suporters...Bloomberg wins easily.
