ya know they could have done something really smart with this immigration thing

like for instance take 100 thousand or so illegal men and offer them citizenship for themselves and their spouses and children if they serve 3 years in the army

Tommy, how is arming non-citizens to fight any war a good idea? We shouldn't be fighting to steal their oil and protect our petro-dollars either.

Why is the fighting acceptable under any circumstances short of invasion of our borders?

We should consider our correctness and sense of humanity before shipping our soldiers off to kill.

Yes, I realize we have soldiers all over the world in startling numbers, doing odd job local chores like patroling streets and whatnot...in other words, putting some boots into our diplomacy in dealing with lesser countries...I think this stinks...the whole notion of intimidation through force of arms stinks. Those soldiers are there to take a hit, then by taking that hit, triggering a reaction from the US. Anything will do...run over by a truck, hit with a piece of brick...all is as much as the US feels the need to make of it...for diplomatic manuverings.

Anyway, to gather up a bunch (100,000) of non-nationals train and arm them sounds a lot like Bin Laden's history with the US secret services...an equally stupid notion.

Tommy - thats actually what I thought they would do :)
The US already does it with other countries foreign nationals - an example is the Phillipines - we have let thousands (if not tens of thousands) with a green card into the US military already - I served with many of them

Unfortunately this whole immigration thing thats going on right now is all about two groups (the Dems and the White House) wanting it passed quickly so that they have something to say that they have acomplished

Big problem with it right now is that it will add 2 trillion in debt to the economy due to the benefits that are allowed for immigrants - unfortunately they are pushing this thing through before the weekend without the benefit of a real budget consideration and bypassing the committees completely - its a real shame
